Slaughter Creek - Vassal Drive Storm Drain Improvements

  • Client: City of Austin

    Location: Austin,Texas

  • Services: Neighborhood Utility Replacement, Small Diameter W&WW
  • Project Details:
  • The Slaughter Creek–Vassal Drive Storm Drain Improvements project addresses localized flooding and stormwater infrastructure deficiencies within an established South Austin neighborhood. As part of the City of Austin Watershed Protection Department Rotation List, Miller Gray developed a detailed two-dimensional hydraulic model of the project area using Autodesk InfoWorks ICM software to evaluate existing drainage conditions and identify flood risk reduction opportunities.

The hydrologic and hydraulic analysis identified approximately 106 structures impacted during the 1% annual chance storm event. Miller Gray evaluated multiple drainage infrastructure alternatives, including new storm drain systems, detention pond improvements, and channel discharge modifications to improve stormwater conveyance and reduce localized flooding impacts throughout the neighborhood.

The project supports long-term flood resiliency, drainage system performance, and stormwater management goals for the City of Austin while minimizing impacts to existing neighborhood infrastructure.
