Sunset Valley Dam Modifications
- Client: City of Sunset Valley
- Location: Sunset Valley, Texas
- Scope: Hydrologic and Hydraulic Analysis and TCEQ Dam Safety Permitting
- Project Details:
Faced with a regulatory challenge to meet TCEQ Dam Safety Criteria, the City of Sunset Valley engaged Miller Gray to retrofit the existing in-line Sunset Valley Regional Detention Pond along the Sunset Valley Tributary to Williamson Creek. Classified as a significant hazard dam by TCEQ, the facility was required to safely convey 75% of the Probable Maximum Flood (PMF).
Miller Gray performed a comprehensive hydraulic analysis to determine the critical PMF duration and inform design parameters. The scope included retrofitting the existing dam’s outfall structure to meet TCEQ standards while maintaining functionality and minimizing disruption. At the time of reporting, the analysis phase was complete and civil design was in progress.
This retrofit supports Sunset Valley’s commitment to flood safety, regulatory compliance, and responsible stormwater infrastructure management in a growing area of south Austin.
